Jim Schneck and his 1934 Model J (SJ-525) Duesenberg are regulars at the Clubs Auburn Reunion. I never tire of walking over and admiring it. I love the Patina and Condition of the car just as it is. If I were taking a car home with me this one would probably be the one

The "Duesenberg Special" or Mormon Meteor as it is known, is a always a welcome sight at Auburn and I am sure Anywhere it Goes. I believe it is still owned by Cincinnati Collector Harry Yeaggy. The Duesenberg Special is a One-Off Factory Built Speed Endurance Car that was built to Set Records. The car was constructed on a 1935 SJ Duesenberg Chassis and the the engine was Super Tuned by August Duesenberg. The Duesenberg Special set it's 1st two Records in October 1935 with Famed Racing Driver Ab Jenkins behind the wheel; a One hour record of 153.97 MPH and a 24 hour Endurance Record on the Bonneville Salt Flats of 135.57 MPH which was held until 1961

I would have liked to have taken more photo's of this Cord Recreation, but the never ending stream of admirers throughout the morning made it difficult, but I do understand why they were there. This Cord was constructed to replicate the 1931 LaGrande Speedster

The Original LaGrande that was built as a Show Car and was introduced at the 1931 New York Auto Show. From there is was shown in the Toronto, Canada Show and then toured the country making stops at Cord dealerships throughout North America. It would return to the Factory before being shipped to France where it received a 1st Place Award at the Paris Concours d'Elegance. It remained in Paris for a period of time. When plans were made to return it to the States it was discovered that the Cord had disappeared and was never to be found. It became known as the "Lost Cord"

This Recreation now "Safely" resides in the Stahls Automobile Museum in Chesterfield, Michigan. It was built by Mark Kennison and Sam Gilliland. The project was started in 1994 and finished in 2004 with an estimated 20,000 hours or research and work. It was finished in it's original colors of Royal Cranberry and Cashmere Cream

It is a Fabulous Car with a Great Story, too bad I have such "Crappy" photo's. Do some internet research on the Recreation and the Original LaGrande Speedster. There is a lot out there pertaining to both of these Cords
