The Jekyll Island Club Hotel has nothing to do with the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance other than the fact that it was where we stayed while attending the Concours. Jekyll Island, Georgia is about a hours drive north of Amelia Island. It is not far from Savannah, Georgia, which is one of our favorites city's to visit. My wife and I love Historical Homes and Hotels so our stay here was the perfect mix for us. We first visited Jekyll Island 32 years ago. The Hotel was fenced off behind tall chain link fencing at that time. From outside the fence looking in, the Hotel was in need of a lot of repair. We never dreamed a restoration would begin four years later in 1986. The Original Jekyll Island Club was founded in 1886 as a private retreat by a group of America's wealthiest families. The original plan was to build "Cottages" used for family Get-a-Ways. A Clubhouse (now the Hotel) was later built for Formal Gatherings and Fine Dining for members and their guest. The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is now open to the public and is an award winning National Historic Landmark

We arrived back on the Island at sunset which made for a perfect walk of the remaining Homes. The original owners referred to these Beautiful Houses as "Cottages". The Cottages have been restored and tours of theses homes and the Jekyll Island Club Hotel are available throughout the year
Like my "Free" Hagerty Insurance tote bag  says... "Life's Better in a Classic"

That's certainly true for Cars, but I have to think that is also true for Classic Houses and Hotels
