Known as the "Honeymoon Auburn", it offered at auction Saturday Night by Worldwide Auctioneers in the original L-29 Cord Building.  Pre-Auction estimates predicted a $400-$500K sale

"Virgil Sciolaro has been crazy about his Auburn Boattail Speedster since he bought it at age 18. He was so impressed with his older brother’s Speedster that he asked his brother to find one for him. “He could smell them out,” Virgil said. Virgil bought his 1935 Speedster on time payments in October of 1945. The same car still sits in his garage. The Sciolaro brothers probably had the only two Speedsters in the Kansas City area in the late 1940s, and it’s easy to imagine what dashing figures they cut behind the wheel. Virgil courted Dolores Sayers in the Speedster, and photos from their scrapbook show a young, vibrant couple. Virgil and Dolores would marry. The Speedster would be their only car until their daughter arrived. The rest of their story can be found on Tom Strongmans website along with some neat photo's."

Worldwide Auctioneers celebrated its 7th Annual Auburn Auction. Two years ago they moved from their "Tented" startup location just a few miles south of Auburn to "inside" the National Automobile & Truck Museum (NATMUS). It was an interesting move and I among others wondered how it would go. It involves a tremendous amount of planning and work to set the Museum up to accommodate an Auction event. It obviously did work because the event returned to NATMUS again this year. The setting is very unique and historically it is awesome considering that the NATMUS is housed in the remaining Factory Buildings that once were part of the Auburn Automobile Company

"National Automobile & Truck Museum"

The National Automobile & Truck Museum, known as NATMUS is located in the remaining Auburn Automobile Company Factory Buildings, which are directly behind the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. Just recently added was this Vintage Gulf Station along with 3 Wood Roadside Cottages (not shown) that would have been rented to those traveling America's NEW Highway System. NATMUS houses a Collection of Cars, Trucks, Americana and Collections of Collections, such as the Pedal Cars shown below. It is a Museum within a Museum

NATMUS like I said earlier is a Collection Of Collections, a Museum within a Museum. You never know what you will find. Shown above are the remains of one of the Proto-Type 810 Cords. After testing, Proto-Types are generally discarded. In this case the early Test Cords were buried in a hole behind the factory. This one was uncovered in a dig years ago. There is not much left of it, but still a neat find

Located in front of NATMUS is EL Cords original Auburn Automobile Company headquarters, now the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, the Museum "is more than a building filled with over 120 Automobiles and related artifacts. It also contains a wealth of historic information pertaining to the Auburn Automobile Company". It is terrible that I walked away with only these few (as in 3) ACD Museum photo's. Next year I will be packing a bigger memory stick for the camera. The Museum is fabulous and there is so much to see.
