Drive the Louisville Concours d'Elegance
Louisville,
Kentucky’s historic Churchill Downs was host to over 200 Rare,
Elegant and Classic Automobiles the weekend of October 4th
and 5th.
Auburn, Packard, Duesenberg, Cadillac and Lincoln were just a few
Classic Cars represented at Louisville’s First Concours d’ Elegance.
Ferrari, the Prancing Horse was the featured Marquee. Cars were
displayed from the Louisville area, along with cars from 23
different states. There were nine classes for competing automobiles
and one for vintage motorcycles. The venue included the traditional
Concours Fashion Show along with exhibiting Automobile Artist's
offering their works for sale and display. The event benefited the Brooklawn Child Care
and Family Services. The goal was to
raise $50,000 for the charitable organization. The Concours event
drew an estimated 3,000 enthusiast.
For the Inaugural event there were some noted collector car
celebrities on hand to help with the show. The Chief Judge was
Charles Moyer from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Mr. Moyer has judged
some 50 Concours D’ Elegances throughout the country. Famed Actor
and Car Collector, Ed Herrmann was the Grand Marshall and also acted
as Senior Judge. He is no stranger to Classic Car events. Mr.
Herrmann has been the Master of Ceremonies at the Pebble Beach
Concours for the past 10 years. The Ceremonially Voice for the
Louisville Concours was Mr. Edward Lucas. Mr. Lucas has been the MC
for major Car events for the past twenty years.
The Winning Concours Cars
and their owners were allowed in the historic
Kentucky Derby Winners Circle to receive their awards. Until this event,
the Winners Circle has always been reserved for Winners of the
Kentucky Derby. The Best of Show Award went to Frank and Milli
Ricciardelli with their Magnificent 1935 Duesenberg Dual Cowl Phaeton by LaGrande. The
Ricciardelli's reside in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey.
In my opinion this Inaugural
Concours Event was quite successful. I am looking forward
to attending next years show.
