The 2013 AACA Hershey Meet was a mix of Nice weather and Not-So Nice weather. Our Friday, which should have been spent combing the Swap Meet for Car Parts turned into a Road Trip, a Wet one. One of our stops landed us at Roadside America in Shartlesville, the heart of Pennsylvania's Beautiful Dutch Country. Roadside America proclaims itself to be the "Worlds Greatest Indoor Miniature Village", if not the largest. The Village consumes over 6000 sq. ft of space. There are over 400 structures, 10,000 tree's, 6000 gallons of re-circulated running water and over 2000 feet of Train Track with multiple operating Trains. Roadside America has been wowing motorists traveling  Interstate 78/US 22 for over 60 years.
I loved the place and so did my two Buddies. All three of us are products of the 1950's so we not only grew up with some of the Coolest Cars ever produced but also with some of the Coolest Toys ever offered. Part of that Cool Toy Category includes Slot Cars and Train Sets. Roadside America is one Gigantic Train Set. Our visit was almost like Time Travel. Seeing all of the great miniature's used to build Roadside America brought back a lot of Great Childhood Memories. The Place is Really Neat and is a Wonderful example of Americana at it's Best

Just when we thought that we had seen all of the Miniature Village, we discovered that there was more taking place "Under the Village". Not only were there Caves with Small People Touring them, there was also another World taking place as in the movie "Journey to the Center of the Earth".  Check out the Dinosaurs living in a yet Undiscovered World... Again, we loved our visit to Roadside America, You will too!

On our way to Roadside America from the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown, Pa. we stopped at "Haags Hotel" for lunch, for no other reason than the place looked very inviting. The sign out front advertised "Dutch Country Specialty's". I do not know just how "Dutch Country" our lunch was, but we feasted on Blue Cheese Smothered Angus Burgers with Apple Wood Smoked Bacon, Crab Cakes, a Basket of Buffalo Wings and large platter of Onion Rings. Dutch Country or not it was All Exceptionally Good! The next time I am in the Shartlesville area I will definitely be paying Haags another visit
